In 1872 August Alboth
established a small china-refining and decorating business in the town of Coburg.
His son Ernst, born in 1868, later joined the business. After his father retired
in 1899, the company was moved to a newly built factory in Kronach. When August
died in 1908, Ernst had two children: Willy, who later joined the company, and
Erna who married a Munich banker named Georg Kaiser in 1922 and who soon joined
Ernst as manager of the business. In 1923, Erna gave birth to a son Hubertus
Kaiser. After the death of Ernst Alboth in 1927, Willy Alboth and Georg Kaiser
changed the named of the company to AL-KA, a combination of the first two letters
of each family's surname. In 1961, the company was run by Willy Alboth and Erna's
son Hubertus and relocated to Staffelstein. In the late 1960s, the company changed
its name once again, this time to Kaiser Porzellan. The company has suffered
some bad times but has persisted for over 135 years and in 2003 was bought by
Porzellan Design Bad Staffelstein GmbH & Co.
