From a bank headquarters in Lyon. Andre Arbus (1903-1969) French architect and decorator, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and learned his trade while working in his father and grand-father's studio. He will never be an ebeniste per se, preferring to draw out his designs and hiring qualified artisans to execute them. His style is classic - curved lines recalling the Louis XV style or rectilinear designs similar to the furniture of the Louis XVI and Directoire periods. After having won the Blumenthal Award in 1935, Arbus receives many notable orders including from the Minister of Agriculture in 1937, the design of the French Pavilion at the 1939 International Exposition in New York and a beautiful jewel incrusted piece for the future Queen Elizabeth II.
