Lacquered
goat skin bar cart by Aldo Tura, 1960s
30" high, 31" wide, 20.5" deep
Aldo
Tura, a singular figure of artist-craftman-decorator, started his furniture
design and manufacturing in the 30. After the sharp stiffness of Art Deco, wood
is now used in free shapes and curved daringly. Tura senses its numberless,
decorative potential capacities in the field of furnishing. Decoration objects
and furniture pieces created by Tura are therefore works of the highest craftmanship,
produced in a restricted number, sometimes limited to a prototype. The demand
for a large scale production is overlooked in favour of a slow, precious workmanship
following the tradition but accepting a freer invention of shapes and materials.
His exceptional skill comes out in the exploitation of the widest range of materials,
such as egg shell, different wood veneering or parchment.
